With over a century of experience in the salt industry, Cheetham Salt Limited is Australia's largest producer and refiner of solar salt products. Founded by Richard Cheetham in 1888, Cheetham Salt is proudly Australian owned.
We currently operate 10 solar salt fields and 3 major refineries throughout Australia with the capacity to produce 1.4 million tonnes annually. Cheetham is also well established in Asia with a state of the art refinery in Indonesia and a sales and marketing office in Japan. Via our joint venture, Dominion Salt Limited, we are also the largest producer and refiner of salt in New Zealand. This geographic diversity ensures we are well positioned to service the Asia Pacific region.
Cheetham Salt prides itself on offering superior value-added products and services to a broad range of industries such as consumer retail, water treatment, food manufacturing and the pool sector. Our solar salt fields and refineries can supply salt for every need, ranging from table salt to entire ship loads of bulk industrial salt.
Cheetham uses natural sea water and lake brines to produce our solar salt, and as a consequence we are the custodian of large tracks of environmentally sensitive land. These solar salt fields provide a habitat for many species of birds and animals, some of which are endangered. We take this responsibility very seriously, and pride ourselves on the sustainable management of these resources.
