- Feeding level varies according to forage availability and quality.
- Ensure fresh, clean drinking water is available.
Feeding Directions - Replacement Heifers
- Feed in self-feeders, troughs or on the ground in conjunction with unlimited access to forage (pasture, hay or silage).
- It is preferable to use self-feeders or troughs as feeding on the ground will lead to wastage.
- Feed at a rate equivalent to 1/4 to 2% of liveweight (0.25 – 2 kg per 100 kg liveweight), according to forage availability and quality until 3 – 4 weeks before calving.
- Do not feed more than 3 kg per meal and ensure adequate feed space is available to allow all stock to eat at the same time and to reduce the risk of bullying and/or animals gorging on feed.
- Aim for steady growth rates, avoiding extended periods of weight loss or rapid gain.
- Ensure fresh, clean drinking water is available.
