Feeding Directions

  • Barastoc Lamb Pellets are suitable for feeding to finishing lambs, early weaned lambs from 4 weeks of age onwards, hoggets, wethers or cull stock in conjunction with a supplementary fibre source.
  • Lambs younger than 4 weeks of age should be fed on Barastoc Lamb & Kid Milk Replacer. The process of weaning from milk onto Barastoc Lamb Pellets should be gradual.
  • Before starting to feed Barastoc Lamb Pellets ensure that all lambs have been fed with palatable hay to appetite for the first day.
  • Start feeding lambs with Barastoc Lamb Pellets at a rate of 0.5% liveweight per day. Gradually increase the rate of feeding each day for the next 21 days up to the desired level of feeding, or up to 3.0% liveweight per day.
  • Ensure that a palatable roughage source such as hay is available to stock at all times.
  • When using self-feeders adjust slide settings to regulate feed intake and achieve recommended feeding rates. The feeder slide should be set so that lambs have to lick the feed out from under the slide. When using self-feeders, lambs will require 2-8cm of trough space per head, depending upon liveweight. If feeding by hand into troughs, split the daily allocation into two feeds. When using troughs, lambs require up to 15cm of trough space per head.
